Towering over western Addar are the Great Mountains, a range of high peaks and deep, circuitous valleys that separates the predominantly humans lands of the Malphigian Basin and Northern Reaches from what are now the mostly elf- and orc-dominated realms of the far west. Very few passes exist through the range, and the few that have been discovered are treacherous.
The range begins in the south in the uplands of Kzorland, rising into chains of snow-capped peaks as it stretches north. After about 200 miles the range widens, first reaching a spur east toward the Aevinn Range, then another larger one that extends west. Beyond this point the range grows and lifts even further, with its sky-scraping summits being the tallest in all of Eamon. At its northern end the range splits, sending arching arms east toward Sayell and west toward Mount Imagery, and descending north into the rough hill-lands of Ta.
In the deep past, dragons of enormous size called the Ancient Ones had their rookeries among the Great Mountains, and their modern descendants still inhabit the range. Few others live among the mountains, though there are a handful of small, mostly-human enclaves that persist, often with the assistance of magic. The orc realm of Nostrum and other small orcish nations live in and below the northeastern peaks.
