Cosmography of Eamon

Eamon — commonly pronounced /ˈiːm(ə)n/ 🔊 rhyming with demon — is a rare pocket of magic in a mostly non-magical realm. Formed in the mists of antiquity by deities from the Elemental Planes, Eamon occupies a corner of the Material Plane that has only a very weak connection to magic, except at rare points where powerful cosmic currents converge. One such confluence lies near the heart of the Milky Way Galaxy, and it's on this point that Eamon sits, the currents imbuing the planet with wild and varied magic and giving rise to frequent spatial and dimensional rifts. These rifts connect Eamon to worlds across the galaxy (including Earth) and across many other spaces, dimensions, and planes.

Domains of Eldur

The bodies circling the mighty star Great Eldur have been studied by the astronomers and astrologers of Eamon since the dawn of civilization, and their motions carefully tracked and documented. Many in Addar refer to the system as the Domains of Eldur, the Houses of Eldur, or sometimes Eldurspace.

The system's innermost region consists of the following:

Great Eldur — The system's bright primary star.

The Veil — A disk of dusty debris circling close to Great Eldur, visible from Eamon at dawn and dusk as a faint band of light.

Hearth — Karcid the Hearthkeeper, the innermost planet, baked by intense sunlight.

Eamon — Home of numerous intelligent races and civilizations, along with a rich profusion of flora and fauna. It's orbited by three moons.

Vaelion — Vaelion the Seneschal, a cool terrestrial world crowned with enormous ice caps and girdled by an equatorial band of open ocean.

Droone — Droone the Sentry, an airless and lifeless rock that marks the outer edge of the core worlds.

Far beyond Droone orbits Little Eldur, a distant golden companion star that circles Great Eldur once every 2,300 years. It's thought to possess at least one world of its own.

The entire system lies in the core region of the Silvern River, surrounded by colorful nebulae and complex clusters and constellations of nearby stars.

Silvern River

The Silvern River is the vast disk of stars that surrounds the Domains of Eldur, visible from Eamon as a glowing path that stretches across the heavens. Within the river float countless stars and planets, including some that are accessible through rifts.

Known in the Kingdom of Evenhold and some surrounding lands as the Silvern River, it has many other names in other cultures. On Earth it's often called the Milky Way Galaxy.

The brightest part of the Silvern River is known variously as the Whirlpool or the Star Sea. In the zodiac of Addar it's called the Maelstrom.
