The Royal Forest of Cynwood lies just east of the city of Evenhold and the town of Dunderhaven within a broad bend of the Zyphur River. Densely wooded and rich with a diversity of flora and fauna, the forest is a popular destination for hunting parties and a good source of lumber and other products used in the city and traded beyond. The darker depths of the forest are also the site of secret religious rituals and the haunt of poachers and bandits.
The Great East Road, which exits the city of Evenhold from the Avenue of Temples, cuts through the southern portion of Cynwood and is patrolled by the king's guards. However, journeying on the road alone can still be dangerous and travelers often group together into caravans for safety.
