Flowing through the heart of the Kingdom of Evenhold, the Westsong River begins in the forested hills of the Grimshaws near the northern reaches of the Shadow Mountains. After first meandering along the eastern edge of the monster-infested Foulwater Marshes, the river flows southwest along the border of Marewood Forest, passes the town of Hobnail, and finally empties into the Malphigian Sea about ten miles west of the city of Evenhold.
Though the lower stretches of the river are picturesque and rich with fish, the Westsong is the subject of various legends and superstitions that associate it with all manner of dangerous supernatural phenomena. Though some of these are false or exaggerated, river-wraiths — referred to as "spooks" by locals — are known to inhabit a several-mile stretch of the river near the Beginners Forest.
