The War of Anharic Succession, commonly called the War of the Twins, was a crisis of succession in the House of Anharos that led to civil war in the Kingdom of Evenhold and the downfall of the monarchy.

When King Corlis III died unexpectedly in 194 YA, his two eldest children — twins — both moved to succeed him. The brother and sister (Charlast and Calibeth) each had influential allies who backed their claims, and each refused to stand aside for the other. As weeks passed with no clear successor, the two resorted to more aggressive tactics to press their claims and fighting soon broke out between their forces.

The royal family, the nobility, and the kingdom's soldiery split into factions and chose sides. With the two contenders evenly matched, neither could gain a decisive edge over the other and the war burned across Evenhold for more than six years, claiming tens of thousands of lives.

In late 200 a secret conclave of warriors and mages formed with the intention of bringing the conflict to an end and saving the kingdom from destruction. In early 201 they struck, conducting a sudden and carefully orchestrated coup that resulted in the capture of the leaders of both factions. Seizing control of Evenhold, they banished both contenders for the throne (Calibeth and the heir of the recently deceased Charlast) and put an end to the civil war. The Council of Twelve, as they came to be known, permitted Corlis's youngest child Kensha to be crowned as a figurehead, but the monarchy was reduced to a powerless and purely ceremonial institution.
