Malphigian Sea

Stretching south from Evenhold lies the sparkling Malphigian (🔊), a broad, shallow sea enclosed on the north, east, and south by the coastline of Addar and on the west by the sweeping chain of islands known as Weyren's Belt. Scattered across the sea are numerous cays, atolls, and other small islands, intertwined with coral reefs and sandy shoals that can easily trap the ships of inexperienced sailors. Beyond the Malphigian Sea to the southwest lies the much larger Sea of Dreams.

Most foreign trade coming in and out of the Kingdom of Evenhold and the neighboring land of Dorier is by ships following trade routes that cross the Malphigian, and this traffic has attracted considerable and pesistent pirate activity despite the best efforts of Evenhold's navy to eradicate it. Makeshift pirate ports and hideouts operate from some of the more obscure islands in the Belt as well as from hidden mainland coves.

Life in the sea is rich and abudant, with fishing common in the shallow coastal waters. Sharks have been known to attack smaller boats. Occasional sightings of tritons and merfolk suggest they may have settlements hidden in the deeper southern waters.
