A mage is any skilled practitioner of arcane magic, regardless of their gender or the source of their abilities. The term includes wizards and witches (who achieve proficiency through study and practice) as well as sorcerers and sorceresses (who have an inherent connection to magic).
The term is not usually applied to those who channel divine magic, who are instead known as clerics, druids, etc.
