During a rare migration of lucicorns, a group lose their way and descend in the middle of the night on the city of Evenhold. At least sixty of the pterosaur-like creatures make their roosts among the towers and parapets of the city and for weeks cause nightly chaos, preying on small livestock and dazzling frightened citizens with their brilliant horns.
Soldiers succeed in killing several of the creatures and drive the rest away. At least two inadvertently enter the rift to Earth and terrorize rural Iowa.
