The Island of Apple is one of the largest of the Western Isles, lying west of Loathia between the Sea of Death and the broader Silver Seas. Inhabited since at least the age of the great empires in the third millennium BA, the island was left isolated after the war between Lanst and Ervuol and only re-charted by explorers from Evenhold in the first millennium YA. A small and mostly human population now lives in a handful of scattered villages and hamlets.
Shaped roughly like an apple, the island has a diverse landscape, with dragon-infested mountains in the northwest gradually descending to grasslands and coastal swamps in the south and dry plains in the east. The western coast is riddled with jagged fjords where human and goblin pirates shelter, while the eastern coast marks the border of an ancient impact that created a wide, circular bay. Forests cover much of the island's northern lands.
A chain of fishing villages line the eastern bight, the busiest being the port of Asquay, but the island's largest settlement is Coopertown which lies inland near the center of the isle. The northernmost town is Melbury, beyond which stands an ancient fortification — Castle Malus — inhabited by the local warlord.
