The walled city of Hobnail, also known as Hobnail Junction, is a busy and propserous settlement situated near the Westsong River northwest of Evenhold. A convenient fording point since ancient times, the river at Hobnail is now spanned by multiple stone bridges that carry much of the traffic and trade between Evenhold and more westerly cities like Frukendorf and Belbury. The kingdom's new railway line also crosses the Westsong on a trestle at Hobnail.

Best known for its trade in armor and armaments, the city is also home to a great variety of other skilled craftsmen from jewelers and artists to clothiers and cobblers, whose interests are represented by a local artisans guild led by master armorer Victor Cooper. Lord H. R. Bottomsmith, a wealthy and unscrupulous businessman who resides in a castle a few miles north of town, is both one of the local artisans' biggest clients and one of the guild's chief detractors.
