Jutting into the Malphigian Sea in southern Lucidia are the Cliffs of Fire, a chain of sharp volcanic peaks and escarpments that loom above the coastline. Though the name strictly applies to rugged peninsula east of the city of Aksha, the formation extends with a few small breaks over 30 miles north to the port of Kathros and includes the sulfurous Mount Collapso.
In centuries past the region's inhabitants interred the mummified bodies of important individuals in the caves and lava tubes that riddle the cliffs, and while many of the burial sites have since collapsed or been incinerated the cliffs still draw occasional adventure-seekers and grave-robbers who are brave enough — or foolish enough — to venture into the winding basalt tunnels.
