Beginning around 1080 YA the Empire of Dorier began a campaign to expand its borders southward into the vast and sparsely-populated plains bordering the Palm Coast. For nearly a century Dorier regularly dispatched soldiers and settlers into the region, subduing or absorbing the scattered tribes that lived there and establishing numerous small farming or mining communities. While the program allowed Dorier to formally claim territory all the way to the Sax Mountains and the Pass of Alvard, the expense of improving and patrolling its vast new acquisitions proved unsustainable and by the end of the twelfth century its forces had largely withdrawn from the area, leaving many communities in a state of quiet and isolated independence.
Far Dorier is now a peaceful region of widely scattered human villages, mixed with small pockets of native peoples who are gradually reclaiming their earlier territories. Among these are the lizardfolk of the southern wilds.
The southern portion of Far Dorier was historically known as Excamia, but this name now applies only to a small neighboring kingdom.
