The Cold Seas, also called the Cold Ocean, North Ocean, or Great North Ocean, is a vast, frigid ocean that lies north of the continent of Addar, stretching west at least to the coast of Tyrna and east to Northland and beyond, likely reaching the shores of the distant and little-known continent of Orashta. Its far northern extents are permanently icebound and bordered by innumerable jagged bergs and floes that make sea travel through the area hazardous. Whether any land lies beneath the vast northern expanses of ice is unknown.
The northern coast of Addar has few coastal cities or major ports that open onto the Cold Seas. The largest settlement is Andport, but other smaller ports of call are known to lie west along the great horn of the Land of Ta.
The west wing of the third floor of the Museum of Natural History in Evenhold has exhibits describing the ocean and its fauna, which includes giant fish with long teeth, whales, pinnipeds, and other marine life.
