The Western Isles, also known as the West Archipelago, is a chain of diverse and sometimes unnaturally-shaped islands that stretches from the westernmost point of Addar to the eastern shores of Veldith and defines the southern boundary of the Sea of Death. The islands and surrounding waters have long been considered impassably dangerous, a place where colorful legends say bizarre magical phenomena occur without warning and deadly beasts prowl the land, air, and sea. Trade routes extend from Addar to the near island of Loathia, and more daring crews will sometimes call at the port of Asquay on the Island of Apple, but travel farther west is rare due to the menace of monsters and pirates. The large island of Connall anchors the western end of the chain.
