Beyond Arenjun in the dry plains of eastern Zamir lies Shad, once a thriving and wealthy city and now a crumbling ruin.
Shad's last ruler was a warrior-king of great strength who ably defended his city for many years, but while the king was traveling in 843 YA the city was suddenly invaded by strange and seemingly magical beings that were immune to attack. The unstoppable beings killed the entire population, and on the king's return killed nearly all of his guards, forcing the king and his few surviving men to flee. The king is said to have perished alone in the wilderness, never reclaiming his city.
The nature and motivations of the beings who took Shad remain a mystery: though human-like in shape, legends say they shimmered, were totally silent, and could move so quickly that they seemed to disappear and reappear like magic. The city's ample treasury is thought to still lie undisturbed in the crumbling palace, but the shimmering beings still haunt the ruins and fortune-seekers who enter the city never return.
