One of the simplest invocations of magic that any practitioner can learn is the Power spell. It invokes magical energy but doesn't direct it, so the result of the spell — if any — tends to be random.
Often the magic dissipates without any tangible effect, but sometimes it magnifies or alters some other nearby magical effect, or will produce some other action such as the healing of injuries, a magical blast of energy, or even teleportation to some random location. Because of its unpredictability, Power is a last-resort spell for desperate or novice magic-users.
