The city of Nan on the Cledra River is the second largest population center in the Empire of Dorier after the capital and is a busy hub of commercial activity, with farm products from the south, gems and metals from the eastern mines, and innumerable crafted goods being traded in its busy marketplaces. Its central walled district sits on the north banks of the river but much of the population lives outside the walls on both sides of the Cledra.
Nan is also the home of the ancient academic organization known as the Scola Obscura, a revered college of scholars that combines the functions of a research university with the mystical traditions of a religion. Its campus, ringed by a high stone wall, stands on the south bank.
