The walled town of Hawkhaven stands atop a prominent butte of volcanic tuff in the province of Ravencliff and is a striking landmark visible for many miles across the surrounding countryside. In ages past the site was a key defensive position commonly occupied by large military garrisons, but shifting borders over the past millennium have somewhat reduced its strategic importance. Though the crown still maintains a presence of soldiers in the town's barracks and ancient stone keep, Hawkhaven is now best known for its wine-making and many of its residents make a good living as vintners or coopers.
The Zyphur River arises near Hawkhaven, with local tradition asserting that it begins with the outflow of the artesian fountain in the town's main square.
