Gak

A gak of the warrior caste
(Art by Nikita Kaputinov)

The boar-like Gakkians — commonly called Gaks or the Gak — are best known to the other peoples of Addar through hostile encounters with their warrior caste, brutish fighters who often travel in nomadic raiding parties attacking targets of opportunity or serving as mercenaries. However, gaks are more diverse than most know and have a sophisticated society rarely seen by outsiders.

Physical description

Gak closely resemble boars, with snouts, tusks, hooved feet, and a round, stocky build, but unlike boars they're bipedal and their arms end in five-fingered hands. Most have a shock of dark, coarse hair on their heads and lighter hair over most of their bodies which can be black, brown, grey, ginger, or even dark blue or violet. Their tusks, which protrude from the corners of their mouths, continue to grow throughout their lives and are an important symbol of status and seniority; in male gaks of advanced age they can be enormous and curled, while female tusks tend to be smaller and straighter. Some gaks have their tusks carved with intricate patterns or capped in metal.

Male and female gaks both average around five feet in height at maturity. Gaks grow quickly and become adult members of society at the age of about 12 years, but they have shorter lifespans than humans, with few ever reaching 70.
