English is the language on the world of Earth that is the most widely understood and has the greatest number of speakers — roughly 700 million as of 1984 CE. Dating back more than a thousand years, the language developed in medieval Britain and then spread as the British Empire expanded across the globe.
Over centuries the language spread through rifts to Eamon, and today a dialect of English known as Aenglish is the most widely spoken on the continent of Addar. Though speakers on both worlds can easily understand each other, the Aenglish dialect incorporates various words, phrases, idioms, and sounds from other non-terrestrial tongues.
