Adventurers Reckoning, also called Guild Reckoning or Guild Miles, is a system of geographic measurement that defines the location of a point on Eamon based on its distance east/west and north/south of the Main Hall of the Guild of Free Adventurers in Evenhold, expressed in approximate miles. The system is practical for adventurers who often work from maps that show directions from the Main Hall, and is popular among Guild members.
The system treats the world as a flat plane centered on Evenhold rather than as a curved surface. This means that although coordinates and distances using Adventurers Reckoning are highly accurate throughout the kingdom, and reasonably accurate across all of Addar, they're unreliable for areas far beyond the continent where the system's inherent distortions (the difference between flat and curved) grow very large.
Coordinates are usually expressed as (x,y), where x is the distance east and y the distance north. Distances west and south have negative values.
Distortion examples
1,000 miles east (1000,0):
True geodesic distance = 997.305 miles
Distortion (flat vs true) = 0.270%
5,000 miles east (5000,0):
True geodesic distance = 4598.300 miles
Distortion (flat vs true) = 8.736%
10,000 miles east (10000,0):
True geodesic distance = 5495.081 miles
Distortion (flat vs true) = 81.981%
